AAARGH-PG! - Version 1.0 Released!

Postby Wonderland » Tue Feb 21, 2017 7:47 am

It is the early 1700's - the golden age of piracy. You're a captain ready to upgrade your ship, grow a crew, and make fame and fortune sailing across the Caribbean. How you do it is up to you in this sim. Do you trade? Thieve? Wage war with the colonial powers? Or do you explore and search for buried treasure?

Not super far along - it's probably about 33% done, but that's always hard to judge. :)

Yeah I thought to myself, this is kind of a hard question to answer.
33% is awesome though. I wish I was 33% the way through anything! Hahaha

Is this point-and-click? I see a lot of potential if it is so. I remember playing a mobile game where the player was in control of a ship, pointing away at locations to explore, collect gold, and build a stronghold/harbor. It was surprisingly joyous, just from how simple it was to play and the amount of content that opens up the longer you stay dedicated. If you were to take a similar approach, allowing players to lead a virtual pirate crew, which could either do good or bad to build up its base and upgrade their ship (as well as territories of capture), I definitely see myself enjoying this. I would really prefer point-and-click controls, however, because I would expect a game like this to not involve a large learning curve. I hope you find my feedback helpful. :)

It sounds similar to that, but at the moment it involves both mouse and keyboard. I agree that mouse only would work well too. Maybe I'll make that an option or change the controls. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm still working on this. It is going well. Ha ha not much to say. I have finished much of the basic mechanics such as upgrading the ship and trading. Now it's on to polish and expanding on some things.

This semi-accurate map of the Caribbean from the time period is used to navigate the world.

Just got a screenie showing off the trading.

You should consider updating the graphics a bit and writing a brief marketing piece for the project.
